Have you always wanted to learn to rock climb, but did not want to be dropped into the deep end, or be taught incorrectly by unqualified people which could result in huge risk.
The SA Outdoor Academy offers a comprehensive course that will give you a solid foundation upon which to build your new safe, healthy, enjoyable pastime. In this course, we cover detail on the important issues such as belaying and knots, but we also cover a wide range of other aspects of climbing, from selection and care of gear, mountain hazards, working with guide books, climbing ethics, training and injury prevention, and handling a mountain emergency.
After this course, one would be well equipped to go out with other experienced climbers. The course will also link you to existing climbing clubs and groups so that you can continue climbing after the course.
This course comprises twice-weekly sessions over 2 weeks (4 classroom-based theory sessions in total) as well as 3 practical outdoor sessions over 2 separate weekends. The final outdoor session includes the assessment.
All lecture venues are close to Johannesburg and take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
